Based on a series of drawings by Sue Walker and originally digitized by Vincent Connaire, fabula
is the new display typeface for the cover of Collins Children
Dictionaries. Its basic monolinear structure and stroke
economy are the foundation for this typeface. The project will continue
in 2005 with the design of a text version.

Athelas was begun in 2003
as part of the MA in Typeface Design at the University of Reading.
The project is a reaction after many years of work closely related
to digital media. An attempt to go back towards the beauty of fine
book printing, of paper and ink. An escape from technical restrictions.
These principles lent Athelas its open counters,
elegant curves and gracefull serifs; with fluid shapes in its roman
variant that meet their counterpart in a more angular Italic.
In this first stage Athelas will be available in OpenType format
with four initial variants: Roman, Italic, Book and Bold. |
